The new year has once again begun, and now it is time to pause and review the past year while looking ahead to 2026. The year 2025 was a significant year for Kemion in terms of product development and diverse projects.
Active product development and new product launches
During 2025, we invested heavily in product development and the launch of new products. Our R&D focused especially on meeting different requirements in freezing conditions and reducing corrosive effects. Environmental friendliness played a central role, and in addition, product development extensively considered the properties of different dusty materials and their effective handling.
During spring and summer, product development focused strongly on biopolymer-based solutions and their dust-binding capabilities. During the summer, the new biopolymer-based Bio-Binder dust control agents were tested domestically and abroad.
Early in the winter, we launched the new Eco-Melter CHIPS, a wood chip-based de-icing solution containing biodegradable ice-melting agents. CHIPS has attracted significant interest from customers and has been adopted both in Finland and internationally as a replacement for traditional road grit.
Towards the end of the year, product development focused particularly on corrosion protection, working both on developing new corrosion protection products and optimizing existing products.
Market situation in Finland
Beginning of the winter, weather was milder than usual, especially in Southern Finland, and harsher frosts had to be expected. However night frosts occasionally caused unexpected slippery situations. Elsewhere in Finland, the use of de-icing and ice melting agents was active, and many customers prepared proactively for winter conditions. At the end of December, severe frosts spread across the country, reaching even southern areas, which in turn reduced the use of de-icing agents. In January, the weather has again become favorable for de-icing operations. Winter operations are, however, often weather-dependent, so through product development, we are also investing purposefully in other product areas to balance seasonal fluctuations and serve our customers year-round.
The frost-resistant NOx reduction solution Defrosta, launched last year as a urea-replacing product, has generated significant interest, and deliveries began at the end of the year. Severe frosts have impacted Defrosta sales.
International growth
In terms of exports, 2025 was particularly successful in Sweden. Years of work and raising awareness about the possibilities of chloride-free de-icing and dust management products are beginning to pay off. Kemion products are already used in dozens of sites in Sweden, and the seasonal new product Eco-Melter CHIPS is being tested in several cities. In Northern Sweden, a project to replace traditional salt is also underway.
In Central Europe, Kemion’s de-icing products are being tested this winter. Additionally, in Central Asia, our polymer-based products are being actively exported to the mining markets in cooperation with Bang & Bonsomer. Based on positive feedback from initial test shipments, expansion into more projects is expected in spring.
International interest demonstrates that Kemion’s environmentally friendly solutions meet global challenges in dust management and de-icing applications.
Participation in expos
We participate annually in various industry events and expos, and this year we were present at the YT Näyttely in May, sharing a joint booth with Bang & Bonsomer Group’s Water & Process Solutions division.
At the YT Näyttely, we were able to meet customers, partners, and industry players and showcase our latest solutions for road and urban maintenance. We are also looking forward to next year’s trade shows, promising an active expo schedule.
Hackathon victory
One of the highlights of the year was winning the YIT Hackathon in May. The Hackathon sought new, more ecological solutions to replace traditional road salt. Kemion’s plant-based, biodegradable liquid was chosen as the winner, which can be used on its own or together with existing road salt. The Hackathon jury saw potential in Kemion’s solution, and the project has now begun in terms of product development and commercialization in collaboration with YIT. Read more from here.
High-quality customer experience
In 2025, we focused particularly on delivery reliability and customer satisfaction. We have repeatedly succeeded in responding quickly and reliably to orders, with even 92% of 2025 deliveries shipped on schedule. This is proof of our effective processes and close collaboration with customers and logistics partners. High delivery reliability strengthens our position as a trusted partner even in demanding and rapidly changing conditions.
Our customer experience has also remained excellent, with an NPS score of 66, reflecting customers’ high satisfaction and trust in our operations and products. We will continue to further develop the customer experience by actively listening to our customers and ensuring that our services and deliveries continue to meet their future needs and expectations.
Looking ahead to 2026
In 2026, Kemion will continue active development and growth. This year also includes attending expos, and we will be present at Talvitiepäivät in Jyväskylä in February and the World Road Congress in France in March. We warmly welcome you to visit our booths and meet us!
Our goal is growth and international expansion, as well as providing even better, environmentally friendly dust-binding and de-icing solutions for our customers. We aim to continue developing our products and services according to customer needs while ensuring quality in all our operations.
Once again, we want to thank all our customers for their trust in Kemion. Thank you for your collaboration in 2025. Wishing everyone a successful 2026!
